Astronics-PECO, located in picturesque Clackamas, Oregon near the foothills of Mt. Hood, designs, certifies, manufactures, and sells a wide range of products to commercial, government, and military markets throughout the world. The Max-Viz enhanced visions systems (EVS) are designed and certified for use as an improvement to safety by a vast array of airplanes, helicopters, and unmanned-aerial-vehicles in the commercial, government, and military marketplace. PECO-Controls are well established temperature control devices designed for applications where high quality is a must, such as the hospitality industry, commercial cooking, and other critical applications.

We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our supply chain team. In this role you will be responsible for effectively planing and procuring materials, services, and equipment in support of external and internal customer requirements. You will perform a broad range of purchasing duties, including sourcing new products requiring extensive or specialized knowledge and experience; ensuring inventory levels are managed according to company objectives and industry best practices.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine MRP analysis in support of forecast and customer requirements. Ensure material availability (on hand, on order supports fluctuation in demand and respond accordingly.)

  • Prepares purchase orders and procures materials to support production plans; interacts with Production/Assembly, Engineering, Suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure procurement of materials within approved schedules and quality specifications.

  • Negotiates cost reductions for purchased materials and subcontracted processes and may prepare contracts to this end.

  • May create and implement other special purchasing programs with company suppliers including KanBan, JIT delivery, bread man systems, outsourcing, etc.

  • Monitors purchase orders, maintaining current information and interacts cross-departmentally to resolve material and purchase order issues.

  • Assists or leads supplier evaluation. May schedule plant tours to evaluate current and prospective suppliers.

  • Work closely with Engineering to maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOM) manufacturing plan, NPI, and obsolete of old product.

  • Performs MRB related functions that pertain to suppliers (RTV, Debit Memos, etc) to insure timely response.

  • Provide reports and power point charts to management on an as needed basis and month end review.

  • Works closely with Materials Manager, Master Scheduler and Manufacturing Engineering on LEAN projects (5S,VSM, POU, KANBANs)

  • Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions.

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

  • Attends Quality Manual Standards Training and applies Quality Standards accordingly.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, or equivalent preferred.

  • APICS/ASCM and/or CPM certificate preferred.

  • 5 years purchasing and planning experience as a Buyer/Planner in a job shop/OEM environment, preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written skills.

  • Proven vendor negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work in team environment.

  • Thorough understanding of ERP, lean / throughput techniques and MRP theory and concepts.

  • Ability to use personal computer, including spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation graphics.
